The 11th International Conference “Pulp & Paper industry: current state and prospects”: the industry professionals united their resources to meet the challenges, faced by industry today!

The 11th International Conference “Pulp & Paper industry: current state and prospects” took place 8 and 9th of November during PAP-FOR exhibition in Lenexpo.

In the conference focus there were such subjects as after crisis development of the industry, nowadays trends in the sector, as well as the progress and implementation of advanced technologies and nanotechnologies etc. Its specially important to mark the carrying out the separate sessions devoted to preservation of environment and energy-saving issues.

Vladimir Chuiko, chairman of board RAO Bumprom, opened the plenary session “Trends in the global pulp and paper industry”. In his paper “Tendencies in Russia’s pulp and paper industry development at market globalization” he noted that pulp and paper industry is the most efficient part of the Forest Cluster as it creates the highest added value and finally determines a total efficiency for the Forest Cluster. The paper was telling about the historical development of pulp and paper sector in Russia. Vladimir Chuiko marked several reasons of decline on the production volume and addressed the audience with the call to analyze those reasons and work out the ways of improvement of investment projects.

A vivid interest was shown to the paper of Martin Kuzaj, executive vice-president Poyry (Finland) “Impact of global economic slump on pulp and paper industry – especially on investments”. Mr. Kuzaj covered the topic of realized investments during the crisis, described the long-term trends and the market opportunities for Russian companies. As the conclusion Mr. Kuzaj mentioned that market pulp business offers opportunities for Russian companies in export markets.

Also a high interest and active discussions were noticed during the presentation of paper of Sergey Malkov, director for technical department “Investlesprom”, “Features of pulp and paper project realization in Russia (case study “Polar Bear” project)”.   

The conference participants noted that the program of the conference this year is symbolic and reflects the problems of pulp and paper industry of Russia today – development of  the sector innovative way for supplying the stable growth.

During PAP-FOR exhibition there was also organized the program of actual and interesting seminars from the companies-participants in the exhibition. There were seminars from such companies as Elof Hansson AB, Andritz OY, United Paper Mills, SKIF, CTS Engtec OY etc.
